HOLLIGAN SIGNED UP FOR A YEAR
(Friday 3rd August 2001) Wycombe have signed up West Ham cast-off Gavin Holligan. The striker who is 21 on Sunday 5th August was released by The Hammers at the end of last season having spent time on loan at Leyton Orient, Exeter City and Kingstonian. Holligan made an immediate impact when he scored twice in Wycombe's pre-season game at Crawley and also featured in The Wanderers two game visit to Dublin. Speaking of Holligan prior to the signing Lawrie Sanchez told the Bucks Free Press "We need people who can put the ball in the back of the net. We haven't got enough of them at the Club. He's got good pace and a good touch and I'm giving him the chance to prove himself" Holligan is keen to get his career back on track after his £150,000 move from Kingstonian to West Ham failed to work out. He made just one substitute apperance for The Hammers before brief loan spells with Exeter City and Leyton Orient. He returned to Kingstonian at the tail end of last season where he hit two goals in seven appearances. Holligan was quick to commit himself to Wycombe after an offer was laid down following the return from Ireland. He told Ringing the Blues "I am delighted to sign a one year contract with a view to something more permanent...this is a nice club and I would like to think my future is here." Holligan completed his move to Wycombe when he passed his medical on Tuesday 7th August. Gavin Holligan career stats and profile Click here to read all the latest Wycombe news |
