FORRESTER DEAL OFF
(Tuesday 31st July 2001)

Lawrie Sanchez has abandoned hopes of signing Northampton striker Jamie Forrester. Wycombe had a £200,000 bid for the 26 year old accepted by The Cobblers but the player could not agree personal terms with The Wanderers and the deal is now dead according to the Official Wycombe Wanderers website.

Forrester had watched Wycombe play Spurs at Adams Park during the pre-season build-up but the on-off deal had upset Cobblers Manager Kevin Wilson. He said on Friday 27th July "Jamie went down to Wycombe to speak to them on Saturday. They never came to any agreement, he watched the game against Tottenham and came home. But ever since then it has been all quiet, nobody has been in touch. It upsets our preparations because he’s a valuable member of my squad. He scored 19 goals last season and I’m sure he will score a lot more this season." The situation has clearly infuriated the Cobblers Manager "I mean I don’t really want to comment too much on how Wycombe Wanderers have dealt with this, but it wouldn’t have been dealt with like this by us here." Wilson added on Tuesday 31st July, "The Jamie deal is dead. Wycombe have not been in touch for a while and I am very pleased he is staying. I hope we can now get things out of the way and can concentrate on football now."

Meanwhile Lawrie Sanchez has said he is likely to offer ex-West Ham striker Gavin Holligan a contract with Wycombe. Holligan scored two goals during the pre-season friendly at Crawley and played in both games during the recent trip to Ireland. Sanchez told the Midweek Free Press "Im hoping we can sort something out with him. He looks lively, he punches his weight and he's got a couple of goals and I'll be talking to him this week"
