BOOKIES UNDECIDED ON ODDS
(Thursday 28th June 2001) Bookmakers seem to be having trouble on settling on what odds to make Wycombe to win the Division Two title next season. A study of odds from ten leading betting outlets has The Wanderers as short as 18-1 with Stan James, right up to 33-1 with William Hills and bet365. Chandler, Coral and Surrey Racing are all quoting odds of 20-1. Ladbrokes and Stanley are giving 25's. Compared to the rest of the field, the bookies have Wycombe to finish in a mid-table position, with Huddersfield and Reading the joint favourites to win the title. The Terriers are being quoted at 6-1 by most bookmakers, while Reading are as low as 5's. With Wycombe yet to risk any money in the transfer market it's no surprise that there's such a variation in the odds. Even newly promoted Cardiff and Brighton are coming in with average odds of 16's. However, with Cardiff Chairman Sam Hammam showing he's willing to pay out big fees, those odds could come tumbling by the time The Bluebirds meet Wycombe on the opening day of the season. City have already splashed out over £1.5m in transfer funds to bring in 30 year old defender Spencer Prior from Man City and 27 year old midfielder Graham Kavanagh from Stoke City. bet365.co.uk , the online betting service have a dedicated service for Wycombe fans with the Club taking a percentage of all bets taken through the www.wycombebet.co.uk link.
