COBBLERS UNHAPPY WITH WYCOMBE (Friday 27th July 2001) Talks are said to be continuing with Northampton striker Jamie Forrester although The Cobblers have launched a verbal attack on Wycombe for their dealing of the situation. Speaking to the Northampton Chronicle, Cobblers boss Kevin Wilson said “Wycombe came in with an offer for Jamie Forrester, it was accepted and ever since then Wycombe have messed the boy around. He is too nice a lad to be messed around, and one thing I don’t like is the way this has all been conducted. If Wycombe had done things properly then it wouldn’t have been so bad but now this can unsettle Jamie. It has definitely unsettled me because I don’t want him to leave the club, as nobody here does, but we all know the implications and financial situation at this club.” Forrester watched Wycombe play Spurs at Adams Park last weekend and Wilson added “Jamie went down to Wycombe to speak to them on Saturday. They never came to any agreement, he watched the game against Tottenham and came home. But ever since then it has been all quiet, nobody has been in touch. It upsets our preparations because he’s a valuable member of my squad. He scored 19 goals last season and I’m sure he will score a lot more this season." The situation has clearly infuriated the Cobblers Manager “I mean I don’t really want to comment too much on how Wycombe Wanderers have dealt with this, but it wouldn’t have been dealt with like this by us here.” Meanwhile Lawrie Sanchez has ended his brief interest in Norwich City centre-back Matt Jackson. Sanchez made an official approach for the 29-year-old earlier in the week but the Wycombe boss will not entertain Jackson's wage demands. Jackson was available on a free transfer but any deal to bring him to Wycombe would have meant smashing Wycombe's tight wage structure, a situation that is totally unacceptable to Sanchez. The news on Jackson comes the day after Sanchez dismissed moves to bring Neil Ruddock to Adams Park. "He is an experienced defender and we need someone like that. But I have completely forgotten him now. His wages would have been pretty high but they weren't the only stumbling block." said Sanchez. Click here to read all the latest Wycombe news |
