COUSINS TESTIMONIAL POSTPONED
(Friday 21st June 2002>
Jason Cousins Wanderers' legend Jason Cousins has been forced to cancel his pre-season testimonial against Martin O'Neill's Celtic after being unable to find a suitable venue to stage the game.
Cousins, who was released by Wycombe at the end of last season, was forced to look elsewhere for a ground after the Club declared the Adams Park surface a no go area while the new 'Desso' surface takes root. It was hoped to stage the game at Watford but an estimated police bill of £50,000 coupled with a hire charge in excess of £20,000 made that option unviable. Oxford and Reading were also ruled out for similar reasons.
The decision will come as major disappointment to Wanderers' fans who along with local fans of the Scottish giants would have made this game a guaranteed sell-out at Adams Park and given Cousins the deserved send-off after 473 appearances in a Wycombe shirt.
Cousins is now hoping to arrange a game later in the season but Celtic may be ruled out due to their involvement in European competition. The former Wanderer, who has since joined Ryman League Aldershot Town, told the Bucks Free Press "I'd like to get something going because clubs the size of Celtic don't come along that often"
