FAULCONBRIDGE SET TO SIGN
(Wednesday 15th May 2002)
Craig Faulconbridge Months of specualtion have been ended with the news that Wrexham striker Craig Faulconbridge has finally signed for The Wanderers subject to the formality of gaining international clearance after leaving the Welsh club. The 24 year old has signed a three year deal with Wycombe will officially join on 'free' transfer on 1st June. Lawrie Sanchez had been keen to sign the ex-Coventry City player for more than a year and a deal was nearly struck earlier in the season but Sanchez opted to take the chance of waiting for the player to be available on a 'Bosman' free rather than pay the £150,000 transfer fee.
Sanchez's gamble looks to have paid off and Wycombe have beaten Stockport County, Crewe Alexandra, Barnsley and Port Vale to his signature. All those club's have shown recent interest in the player and Oldham Athletic were also keen for his services at the same time of Wycombe's initial enquiry in January 2002.
Faulconbridge said goodbye to Wrexham after their final game of the season, a 2-1 home victory over Bournemouth. Faulconbridge didn't feature in the game where his already relegated side condemned The Cherries to Division Three. He told the local Wrexham press "I wish them well next season. I would be very surprised if they're not fighting for promotion in 12 months time. I've played my last game for the club but there are no bad feelings and I will look back on my time at Wrexham with fondness."
The 6'1" striker now says he wants to further his career but thanked Wrexham for giving him the chance to show his worth after being released by Coventry. "I arrived from Coventry as a 21-year-old with no experience and was given my chance to impress like so many youngsters have at the club. I would say I've had three promising years and now it's time for me to move on and fulfil my potential. Hopefully I will be playing in the Second Division next season, though obviously I want to play at the highest level possible. One day I want to play in the Premiership." Faulconbridge scored 34 goals in 126 appearances during his three year spell with the Welsh club. Click for player profile
