WYCOMBE LOAN VILLA STRIKER
(Thursday 13th September 2001) ![]() The six foot striker made his first team debut for Villa as a 20 year old in December 1997 during a 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road but didn't make it back into the side for another two years. Then under former Wycombe Manager John Gregory he made five further Premier League appearances during the 1999/2000 season, scoring against Watford and Arsenal at Villa Park. The move to bring in Walker comes just a couple of days after Sanchez was frustrated by another blow to his efforts to bring in a striker on a permanent basis. The player was thought to be Wrexham's Craig Faulconbridge and speaking of his disappointment on Ringing the Blues, Sanchez said "When we spend £200,000 that is a great deal of money for us and so we have to be more selective in the market, the player also has to be better than what we already have. I am as disappointed as everyone else at the club that this has fallen through but the search will continue." The previous week Sanchez was shunned again when he tried to sign an experienced striker on loan but the player joined another Division One club. Fans are suggesting that this could have been Wolves' Robert Taylor who opted to join QPR instead. Walker will begin his loan spell at Wycombe in the game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday (15th September) and will be available to play in all games up to and including the home game against Bournemouth on Saturday 13th October. Speaking of his loan move to Wycombe, Walker told the Bucks Free Press "It's a new challenge and that's what I like. Hopefully I will score a few goals and we'll get up the league" Click here to read all the latest Wycombe news |
