FA HONOURS FOR SANCHEZ
(Thursday 11th July 2002) ![]() It's described by the FA as "A year-long study of the art and science of modern coaching and has been specifically designed to give the country's most talented coaches the chance to fulfil their potential at the highest level". The course has been partly developed by FA Technical Director Howard Wilkinson who commented "It'll raise standards for the clubs, for the fans and the players, so there are pay-offs all around." For Sanchez it has let him see things from a different perspective. The Wycombe boss was quoted on the thefa.com website as saying "The important thing for me has been to be able to go away and use what I have learned with my club. I have done things for the first time like looking at the season as whole, rather than seeing pre-season as a separate element. I have thought about how I relate to people in the club plus the causes and potential prevention of injury." The course has prompted Sanchez to employ Peter Cawley as a new fitness training for the entire Wanderers' squad in addition to his Reserve Team Manager role. Sanchez also introduced a two day a week training programme for the players during the normal close season and the full training has now put more emphasis on short distance sprinting and turning rather than the usual pre-season 5 mile plus runs. The full list of Managers on the inaugural course were Dick Bate, Noel Blake, Terry Burton, Steve Cotterill, Mervyn Day, Dario Gradi, Stewart Houston, Martin Hunter, Chris Hughton, Sammy Lee, Lawrie Sanchez and former Wycombe boss Alan Smith.
