EURO CALL-UP FOR SIMPEMBA
(Wednesday 10th July 2002) Former Wanderers' Youth Teamer Ian Simpemba has been called up for the Republic of Ireland Under 19 squad to play in the UEFA Championships in Norway at the end of July. The 19 year old central defender/midfielder played a bit part in the Republic's progress to the finals and will be hoping for further caps after being given a year extension to his contract with Wycombe. Eight teams are taking part in the competition in Norway, and Ireland have been drawn in Group B along with Belgium, England and Germany. Group A consists of Norway, Slovakia, Spain and Czech Republic. The winners of each group go through to the final in Ullevål with the runners up contesting a third place play off. The tournament runs from Saturday 21st July until Saturday 28th July and consequently Simpemba will miss Wycombe's pre-season trip to Scotland.
