CASTLEDINE
SIGNS FOR BLUES
(Friday 26th May 2000) Ex-Wimbledon trainee Stewart Castledine became Wycombe's first close season signing when he put pen to paper on a three year deal with The Chairboys. Castledine will officially become a Wycombe player on the 1st July when his contract with The Dons expires. The 27 year old midfielder has been with the South London side since leaving school but has had limited First Team opportunities - making 35 League appearances across six seasons and scoring seven goals. He has, however, been a key member of the Wimbledon reserve side where he played under Lawrie Sanchez. Castledine will be no stranger to Adams Park having played on-loan for Wycombe under Alan Smith during the early part of the 1995/96 season. The Wandsworth born player made seven appearances in a Wycombe shirt during August and September 1995 - and managed to get on the score sheet three times, including a goal in the 4-0 thrashing of Bradford City at Valley Parade. Since his return to Selhurst Park, Castledine has mainly slogged it out in The Dons reserve side and there was talk of him heading back to Adams Park a couple of seasons back but the transfer fee proved to be the stumbling block. Now under the 'Bosman' ruling, six foot plus Castledine has become Lawrie Sanchez's first signing of the summer. In an official press release issued by Wycombe Wanderers on the day of the transfer Castledine was quoted as saying "I enjoyed my two month loan here back in 95, it is a super club with very nice people and I am delighted to be offered the move on a permanent basis. I know Lawrie and Terry from their time at Wimbledon, they are ambitious and want to get Wycombe Wanderers into the First Division." Return to News Desk... |
