| MARSH
SIGNS FROM WALSALL (Wednesday 21st March 2001)  Wycombe have
signed 31
year old Walsall defender Chris
Marsh for £30,000
on two year deal.
The signing was announced just a day before the Thursday transfer deadline but
Marsh will not be able to play against his former club when The Wanderers travel
to The Bescot Stadium
on
Saturday
(24th March).
Marsh, who can play on either flank, is
also cup-tied and therefore will not be
legible
to play in the
FA Cup
Semi-Final at Villa Park
against Liverpool.Apparently Marsh's move to Wycombe had been on the cards for some time and speaking of the move Marsh said "My season has been stop-start because of an injury and my indifferences with Ray (Graydon) and I can't wait to start a game. The former Walsall trainee can boast twelve years of service for the Midlands club where he made over 450 appearances and scored 30 goals. His flexibility in defence has seen him play in all positions, including goalkeeper but he's been out of favour this season and had made only nine appearances. His last game in a Walsall shirt was the Saddlers 1-0 home defeat to Colchester on 10th March. A favourite with the Walsall fans, Marsh was awarded a testimonial at the end of the 1996/97 when The Saddlers took on West Brom - the team Marsh supported as schoolkid. Marsh will probably be used by Wycombe in the problem right-back role having played most of his time at Walsall in the midfield position. He was converted to full-back during the season The Saddlers gained promotion to Division One in 1998/99 and the change proved a great success. 5 foot 11 inch Marsh becomes the second player from The Saddlers to join Wycombe this season - following the signing of Andy Rammell in September for £75,000. Wycombe fans will be hoping that he turns into a similar success story. He is likely to make his debut when Millwall visit Adams Park next Tuesday (27th March). Return to News Desk... |
