ALL THERE IS TO SAY AND KNOW ABOUT WYCOMBE WANDERERS ON THE INTERNET....
MEDIA MEN GIVE THEIR VIEWS
(Thursday 12th October 2000)
This is Part Two of a feature on the Supporters Forum held in the Vere Suite at Adams Park on Thursday 12th October featuring Alan Parry, Jim Rosenthal and Steve Cohen. Return to Part One >>>

PAY-PER-VIEW
The Forum was held just 24 hours after the Finland v England Pay-Per-View match on <U>Direct and a straw poll showed that some people had actually managed to see the coverage, albeit in their local pub.
Alan Parry said "I think it's in its infancy as a technology and in it's infancy as an idea. I'm not sure it's going to make much of an impact in the coming years" He added "Everybody is just dipping their toes in the water at the moment and no one is expecting, either the Football Clubs or the TV companies to make a lot of money out of it"
Jim Rosenthal had a slightly differing view bearing in mind his involvement with OnDigital. He said that OnDigital had seen a massive up take in subscribers since the rights to the Champions League had been secured - moving from 70,000 to 750,000. "They look at that and say Football sells digital television"
However, Rosenthal was concerned "that there is a danger that this is going to be overkill" on TV, with games on everyday of the week. He also thought that people where reluctant to pay for games having already brought equipment and paid other subscriptions. "It's not that they can't afford it, it's just that extra and why the heck should I pay twice"

TV MONEY FOR WYCOMBE
Alan Parry explained that the new joint deal between OnDigital and ITV would be worth £315m over three years for Nationwide clubs - a figure four times that of the current deal - a deal that will provide welcome cash for Wycombe.
Parry said "Wycombe have already benefited from the new deal" confirming that the first cheque from the sponsors had been received by the Club.
He confirmed that there would be 88 live Nationwide games per season with games being played on Thursday's at 8pm and Sunday's at 6pm. These would be complemented by 15 live regionalised Sunday games on ITV plus a 'Match of the Day' style programme. Rosenthal suggested that the highlights programme that may include a round up of Nationwide games in addition to the Premiership games.
Parry concluded this topic by saying "No matter what you think about television and I know everybody gets annoyed at the way it disrupts fixtures and habits, the old Saturday tradition has gone by the wayside mainly thanks to TV"
"The bottom line is that kind of money is not attainable elsewhere and your football might cost more here than other grounds in the Nationwide if it wasn't for this revenue"
