SANCHEZ PLEASED WITH JONES (Saturday 12th August 2000)  After
the battling 0-0 draw at Stoke on the opening day of the 2000/2001 season,
Lawrie Sanchez was full of praise for on loan striker Steve Jones -
making particular reference to his physical presence up front. After the game
the Wycombe gaffer said "Any of the fans who were here will tell the
fans back at Wycombe that have been criticising him in pre-season that is
something we haven't got at the Club. With due respect to Bairdy, Sean and Jocky,
he's a rumbustious centre-forward and he caused all sorts of problems but he
needs to score goals."Jones has until the end of October to convince Wycombe to sign him on permanently and Sanchez added "The rest of his game was excellent, I thought he led our front-line excellently and if you were a Stoke fan you would have worried that something would have been happening." Sanchez also praised the all round team effort. "Everybody did the job required of them. Jocky caused problems with his pace, the back four were solid.
