Berks and Bucks
Senior Cup Final
Wycombe Wanderers 3
Aylesbury United 2
Monday 2nd May 2005
Captain Stuart Nethercott lifts the Cup along with goalscorer Russell MartinWanderers won the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup for the first time since 1990 after a 3-2 victory over Aylesbury United in the Final at Adams Park on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon. All the goals came in the second-half with Russell Martin opening the scoring for Wycombe in the 53rd minute when he cut in from the right before sending in a low shot inside the near post. Wanderers went 2-0 ahead in the 62nd minute when Adrian Caceres' shot was initially blocked but the ball was returned into the danger zone and eventually converted by Kieron Gradwell. Drew Roberts pulled one back for the visitors three minutes later when he flicked the ball over Steve Williams in the Wycombe goal. A bizarre incident followed in the 82nd minute when Jonny Dixon played a drop ball back from the half-way line to Aylesbury 'keeper Jack Rashid only to see the ball drop into the back of net. Wanderers then sportingly allowed Drew Roberts to walk the ball in from the resulting kick-off and with no further goals it left Wycombe 3-2 victors and Captain Stuart Nethercott to lift the Cup.
