Gary Doherty - adjudged to have fouled in the box against Pompey Luck did not shine on Wanderers at Adams Park as they went down 1-0 to Portsmouth. The only goal of the game came in the 50th minute when a soft penalty was awarded for a foul by Gary Doherty on Wes Fogden. Ryan Taylor converted from the spot for what was the visitors only shot on target during the 90 minutes. Wycombe went close to an equaliser on the hour mark when Matt McClure's close range effort hit a post and then along the line before being cleared. Doherty then had a stoppage time 'goal' ruled out after the referee had spotted a handball in the build up.

Team news for the visit of Pompey saw Gareth Ainsworth stick with the same starting XI who had drew at Mansfield the previous Saturday. That XI did everything but score during a first half that saw Wanderers kick towards the Valley End. Pompey 'keeper Trevor Carson made a string of saves, including efforts from McClure (twice), Josh Scowen and Reece Styche. But the penalty decision was cruel for Wycombe and they are now down to 21st in the table, just three points above the relegation zone.

Post match reaction:
Gareth Ainsworth Commenting after the game, Gareth Ainsworth said, "The penalty decision was the only thing that went for Portsmouth. I thought it was the softest penalty I have ever seen. I donít think any Portsmouth player appealed for the penalty, the referee just seemed to give it. The referee sees what he sees on the pitch and that was their one shot on goal tonight and they scored it. I think itís a soft penalty, Doc thinks itís a soft penalty, but the referee thinks it is a penalty and thatís the decision that counts on the pitch. We canít do anything about yesterday but we can do plenty about tomorrow, and thatís what Iíve told the boys. We did put the ball in the net Ė and again I question that decision Ė and thereís a handball on the line, but when your luckís out, itís out. Tonight it was out but itíll be in soon and weíll give someone a right hammering."
