JUNIORS TAKE 5-A-SIDE TROPHY |
There may have been no Evening Standard Five a Side competition during the 1995/96 season but Wycombe Wanderers still managed to sneak a trophy from this form of the game. A junior team representing Wycombe Wanderers Independent Supporters Club (WWISC) lifted a national Under 14's Trophy in a tournament held at Worcester. The competition organised by the National Federation of Supporters Club also saw the Wycombe Under 12's reach the semi-final stage before losing narrowly to eventual winners Rushden and Diamonds. Both teams from Wycombe were among dozens of clubs who had fought through local qualifying rounds for the right to attend the final stages. The Under 14's reached the final on the day following victories against Bristol Rovers 'B', Macclesfield and Rushden & Diamonds, the latter following a dramatic penalty shoot out where the lads from Wycombe won through after the penalties went to sudden death. Bristol Rovers 'A' were their opponents in the final and two early goals for the Wanderers were enough to overcome the reigning champions and bring the trophy back to Buckinghamshire. The full team-line up for the Wanderers was Jonathan Case, Sam Dodds, Steven Pardoe, Daniel King, Tristan Lewis and James Pike. The complete day was organised by WWISC, who with the aid of local sponsors MARS CONFECTIONERY and BEACON HOUSING ensured that the kids and their parents saw no expense from their day out. The delighted juniors were also treated to a £65 helping of fast food burgers on the return trip as further reward for their endeavours. |
